Cedar Avenue in flooding crisis
Cedar Avenue in the Butt Lane ward has suffered from serious flooding during the festive period. Many residents have complained to me that local roads are flooding because the gullies in some areas have not been cleared out for years. I have asked that Kidsgrove Town Council write to Staffordshire County Council and demand the authority puts Kidsgrove Highways at the top of the priority list. Lack of maintenance to all aspects of our highways is leading to irreparable damage that I fear will cost us as taxpayers a lot more cash in the long run because the small jobs havent been done.
School cleaner and local resident Pam said: “The other week my husband was driving through Cedar Avenue and the car stalled because the water from the flooding stalled the engine. I want to know why the County Council aren’t taking action and keeping our roads up to a good standard. If the car gets damaged again I will be sending the car repair bills to the council leader”.
Staffordshire County Council’s website says: “Highway Drains – These are private drains owned and maintained by the highway authority. They are intended only for highway water. The highway authority may discharge highway drains to any ditch, watercourse or piped watercourse”.
