Royal Award for Mow Cop Residents

Mow_Cop_CastleOn June 2nd Buckingham Palace announced that Mow Cop Residents Association would receive a Queens Award for Voluntary Service.  The Award is the highest and most prestigious award that can be bestowed upon a voluntary body.  The nomination was forwarded to the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire office in September 2013, and since the nomination was accepted, Mow Cop Residents Associations activities and performance has been thoroughly scrutinised by the Lord Lieutenants Staff, before the nomination was recommended and forwarded for royal approval.

Although the Residents Association committee members have known of the award for some five weeks, they were all sworn to secrecy until the award was announced.  There will be an official award ceremony and a local celebration taking place shortly.

Newchapel Councillor Elsie Bates said: “It is wonderful news that the Mow Cop Residents Association have achieved such a high honour.  It is about time that their hard work is recognised officially.  The village hall has been transformed into a beautiful venue for all of the residents in the area to enjoy.  I am proud that Kidsgrove Town Council and Newcastle Borough Council have supported the Residents Association with community Chest Grants over the years and it is pleasing to see that money was well spent.  The Town Council send our many congratulations to those who have done such a good job over all these years.”
