Kidsgrove WW1 Centenary Exhibition 2017

poppy_picture_ww1_exhibition_kidsgroveCouncillors and members of the Kidsgrove Writers Group have come together to organise a public exhibition of writings, poems and memorabilia to remember the beginning of The Battle of Passchendaele.   The battle led to the death of over 250,000 British Servicemen and went down in history as one of the most horrifying events of WW1. It took place on the Western Front, between 31st July and November 1917, for control of the ridges south and east of the Belgian city of Ypres in West Flanders.

Cllr Kyle Robinson said: “There is no better way to pay tribute to the brave men who sacrificed their lives to ensure our great country had a future free from tyranny. If it wasn’t for those that sacrificed their lives for us all, we may not be free today. I have attended many meetings with the Kidsgrove Writers Group and we have been wanting to organise a WW1 Centenary Exhibition for some time. We are hoping to launch the exhibition at the end of July, exactly 100 years after the battle of Passchendaele began. This will be an educational opportunity for all of us, but it will also allow us to respectfully remember those that gave their tomorrow for our today.”

The event is planned to take place on Saturday 29th July 2017 at Kidsgrove Town Hall. More information will soon be released about the launch event which will include public readings of poems and short stories. The organising committee would like to ask if you have any memorabilia or photographs relating to WW1 that you would like to go on exhibition at Kidsgrove Town Hall. If so, please email Kyle on kyle.robinson@newcastle-staffs.gov.uk or call 07837905443.
