NEWCASTLE BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2015
I have been fortunate to have been re-selected as your Labour Party candidate in the forthcoming borough council elections to be held on 7th May 2015
I have lived in the area since 2002 and have served on both NULBC and KTC since 2011 and have endeavoured to work hard for the communities that I have been elected to represent. In May 2014, I was honoured to have been elected as the Mayor of Kidsgrove, having previously served as the deputy Mayor. I’m an active member of many local community groups and have helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
As a borough councillor I have supported many residents in Talke and Talke pits with local issues on diverse matters such as planning, highways and anti social behaviour. I have been involved with many local campaigns opposing closure of several local services such as Learning disabilities day care, youth services, police station and our local fire station, which is currently under threat from the Tory lead county council. I consider that Talke, Talke pits and Kidsgrove as a whole are great places to live and have an enviable community spirit.
One of my recent campaigns to save the bus service to parts of Talke Pits has been partly successful, but there is still work to do. I will continue to lobby first bus and put the residents of this ward before big company profits.
I believe passionately in supporting our community. I have been privileged to have been elected to serve you for the past four years and hope , with your continued support that I will be able to serve you once again. Please use your vote for The Labour Party on Thursday 7th May 2015.

Labour Councillors are campaigning to save local bus services following huge cut backs to services by First. The removal of services to key locations has left residents isolated in their homes with no access to other forms of public transport.
Councillor David Allport and Mike Stubbs have met with the regional director of First Bus and hope to have a date for a public meeting soon.
David Allport said: “It’s appalling that first bus has removed these services without speaking to local people first. We will not sit back and allow First Bus to put profit before people. If there are problems with the service now, imagine what it will be like in winter for the elderly and disabled. How are local children going to get to school?”
Mike Stubbs also commented: “The Tory led Coalition Government has done all it can to cut transport subsidies up and down the UK. The Government wants more people to go out and work, but then removes the main option for the people of Talke and Talke Pits to get to the workplace. Cutting the bus service is a senseless thing to do.”
Talke Library adjoining Springhead Primary school could face closure under Tory controlled Staffordshire County Council plans to slash local services and facilities. The relatively new facility is well used and is also home to the Friends of Talke Library. Educational events and activities are held on a regular basis at the library and the building would be sorely missed.
Councillor David Allport said: “Libraries are not just a place to sit and read. They are community hubs offering a wide range of activities for people of all ages. Some people still don’t own a computer so their only access to the internet is their local library. These cuts to our services are cold and calculating and part of a Tory ideology to shut down public services and offset any responsibility for the community. We must fight back and stand up for the village.”
