Volunteers at the Baptist Church Coffee Shop in Butt Lane have been holding a poetry competition and a winner is to be announced in the coming weeks. The theme is Butt Lane of course and there has been over 30 entries. The standard of the entries are said to be very high and there has been a huge amount of positive feedback from local people involved.
Coffee Shop co-ordinator Peggy Stevens said: “Our latest venture at the coffee shop is to involve more local folks. One of our volunteers, Lorraine, came up with the idea and she is so talented when it comes to things like this. She tells me that the poems about the village all have a different approach and some are of excellent quality”.
The closing date for entries will be this Wednesday so anyone wishing to take part need to visit the coffee shop between 10am-3pm. All poems will be going on display in the church hall for members of the community to enjoy. The competition will then be judged on Wednesday 13th March during the coffee shop opening hours. Anyone will be welcome to attend to see the winners and the runners up.
The Butt Lane Coffee Shop is open every Wednesday, 10am-3pm. There is a wide variety of dishes available for lunch at very reasonable prices or you can just pop in for a coffee. The warm and friendly atmosphere will make you want to visit again for sure.
